The overall objective is to inform the reader about common chromosomal abnormalities which produce birth defects. Chromosomal abnormalities occur prior to birth during development; occuring through errors in cell division which can be either meiosis or mitosis. This page is here to inform as well as educate about certain chromosomal disorders. We conducted a survey that presents the reader with a hypothetical scenario – if a CVS test came back positive for a particular type of birth defect, what would you do?

Understand that we are not here for controversy’s sake; we do not interject our personal views into the page. We made this website in order for people to understand the Biology of a few common, chromosomal disorders so that we might be educators in the community.

It is said that 150,000 + children a year are born with a birth defect, which results in roughly 3 out of every 100 babies born in the United States. It goes without saying that in underdeveloped countries, this rate is much higher.

Therefore, we implore couples trying to get pregnant, whether or not the baby is at risk of passing on defective genes, to have their doctor perform a CVS or amniocentesis test. Ignorance may be bliss, but knowledge is power, so please educate yourself and figure out your options!
